Adaptive Soccer Resources

Participate in Adaptive Soccer

Many participants with visual, intellectual and mobility impairment participate in programming directly with their local Member Organizations. Our Member Organizations work hard to offer programming that is accessible to participants of all abilities, and work with participants and their parents/guardians to ensure that the soccer experience meets their needs. Want to play soccer in Saskatchewan?

Would you be interested to see a specific type of adaptive programming within your Member Organization? Are you a Member Organization looking to create an adaptive program? Check out our Adaptive Soccer Member Strategy to learn how we're expanding programming in this area. Contact the IDEA Coordinator at j.wood@sasksoccer.com to find out how to get started .

Adaptive Equipment

Power Chair Soccer

Power chair soccer is the game of soccer where players use powerchairs equipped with footguards to pass, shoot and carry the ball in order to score the most goals. The sport is played in a gymnasium. Each team is allowed 4 players on the court at one time including the goalkeeper.
This short video explains the game.

Athletes with Intellectual Disabilities

Saskatchewan Soccer is a proud partner of Special Olympics Saskatchewan, the provincial organization offering sport opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Participate with soccer teams in Saskatoon, Regina, Humboldt, and other locations across Saskatchewan. Visit Special Olympics Saskatchewan for more information.

Canada's Para Soccer National Team

Canada's Para Soccer Team is made up of athletes who have cerebral palsy or have had a stroke or brain injury. To accommodate the abilities of the athletes and to make the game more exciting, the game has slight modifications, such as a smaller field, smaller nets, no offside rule, etc.

If you are an athlete with one of these three disabilities, you could play for Team Canada in international competition! For more information, or to be identified, visit Canada Soccer.

Grants

Adaptive Sport Equipment Grant

Application deadlines: Member Organizations must submit applications to SSA by March 22 and/or Sept.22 annually. SSA will then submit applications to Sask Sport by April 1 and/or Oct. 1.

The cost of specialized (adapted) equipment for athletes with a disability to participate in sport is a significant barrier to their participation. The purpose of the Adaptive Sport Equipment Grant is to assist in removing this barrier and provide financial assistance for the purchase of adapted equipment for people with a disability to participate in organized sport programs.
